Prevention and risk reduction strategies are designed to reduce the impact of substance use and mental disorders on individuals, families, and the community at large. Our prevention team aims to promote healthy lifestyles by reducing substance abuse and other problem behaviors that may put vulnerable populations at risk. We utilize evidence-based practices and work to engage community leaders, organizations and agencies in uniting their prevention efforts.
We focus on community-level change, aiming to educate and provide skills to the general public on issues such as drugs and alcohol, suicide prevention, parenting skills, stress reduction techniques, self-esteem building and other life skills. We closely follow the data from the Student Health and Risk Prevention (SHARP) Survey and use this to guide our efforts (you may view the SHARP reports at https://dsamh.utah.gov/reports/sharp-survey).
Prevention services are provided by our prevention specialists throughout Tooele County. We follow the Strategic Prevention Framework to create and track community change.
